President’s Report July 2017

Monifieth Local History Society /House of Memories

Management Meeting Friday 4th August

President’s Report

July has as expected been a busy month for us, with an increase in the number of visitors to the House of Memories, quite a few from overseas, also increased activity on our website.

Our disappointment at having to cancel the fundraising “Tea in the Garden” became easier to accept, when on the day the weather was atrocious. Someone somewhere was looking after us. !!!

Recently, when a visitor came and offered an item for us to add to our display, I became aware of the fact that the local community are very supportive of our work and the services we provide. This idea became apparent when looking at the memorabilia, photographs etc. all gifted or loaned to Monifieth Local History Society, and as said by one benefactor “I want to keep my items and memories here, where I belong, preserving our heritage”. Sadly the person is `no longer with us’, but we are still able to display the gift, hopefully for future generations.

Our work and the services we provide are recognised, locally, nationally and internationally, which of course is our constituted objective. This has, and only can be achieved by the amount of time and skills given by a few volunteers, and as President

I thank you for your commitment and dedication, on occasions through very difficult and stressful situations.

We have recruited two new volunteers who are prepared to give us some of their time on a regular basis, and two ‘regulars’ have increased their hours ‘on duty.

Looking to the future – August & September should bring an increased work load, with our participating in several scheduled local events, talks, Open Doors Weekend & Angus Heritage Week.

To conclude July has been a success story for Monifieth Local History Society and the House of Memories community project. Thank you all once again.

Margaret Copland (President.)
